As a maintenance Plumber of 53 years I have seen a lot of people wanting to give their Bathrooms, Laundries, En-Suites and Kitchens a bright new look but do not have a massive amount of money to spend.
Here are a few tips on economically upgrading your existing tapware throughout your home to give it a stylish new look without breaking the bank account.
Bathrooms / Ensuites
Vanity Basin's:- To give your existing vanity basin tapware a new look with new stylish tapware there are a couple of ways this can be achieved.
If your existing basin is in good condition the best method of modernising it, can be to replace the existing basin tap set with a new ¼ turn ceramic hot and cold basin tap set which could have a fixed or swivel outlet fitted. These taps could be retro fitted to existing plumbing under basin.
If your existing basin is in poor condition (plastic or stained ceramic) this can be replaced with a new ceramic inset basin including fitting a basin flick mixer tap in basin. This can also be retro fitted to existing plumbing under basin.
Shower Tapware and Outlets:- With the amount of use your existing shower taps endure you might find they can look drab and old.
To give your shower/showers a new look, you can replace your existing hot and cold taps with ¼ turn ceramic seat tapware, with various styles of handles to suit your desired look.
If your existing all directional shower outlet has seen better days, this can be replaced with a modern handheld shower head, with the option of upgrading it to include a rain shower head to suit your needs and convenience.
In some cases a full shower rail system can be installed. This allows height adjustment to the hand held shower outlet.
Bath Taps and Outlet:- Also don’t forget about giving your bath a new look!
You can replace the existing hot and cold taps with ¼ turn ceramic seat tapware with handles of your choice.
We can’t forget about the spout; there are many stylish fixed or swivel outlets available.
Laundry
Trough and Washing Machine Taps:- Most older style homes will have the Laundry Taps and Washing Machine Taps protruding from the wall. Although it was a simplistic idea on project homes, these days it has lost its appeal.
To brighten up the Laundry without completing a major renovation the taps over the Laundry Trough can be replaced with ¼ turn ceramic seat tapware and new handles of your choice. The new outlet can be either a swivel or fixed outlet.
The Washing Machine Taps can be simply replaced with mini stop taps which are more compact and are not so visually unappealing. Some water leaks go unnoticed for quite some time, until your water bill is received or your water company lets you know that the water usage is high.
If you already have a flick mixer in the laundry, there are alternative mixers available including gooseneck mixers and pull out vegie spray mixer taps.
Kitchen / Scullery
Kitchen Sinks:- Depending what type of tapware you have in place will assist in determining what type of types/styles can be installed to tidy up your kitchen sink.
If you have taps in the wall above kitchen sink you can simply replace existing taps with ¼ turn ceramic seat tapware with new handles and either a fixed or swivel outlet.
If you have a hot and cold tap set connected through inset sink you can tidy this up by installing a new set of Hob Sink Taps with ¼ turn ceramic seat tapware and a swivel outlet.
If you have a hot and cold tap set connected through inset sink you can change the look by retro fitting a sink flick mixer in sink top and blanking off two remaining holes. This is quite an acceptable way of upgrading your kitchen sink with a neat finish.
If you already have a flick mixer, there are a range of options available including gooseneck mixers and pull out vegie spray mixer taps.
Most of the mentioned tapware options refer to changing the tapware to easy turn ceramic seat, because of the durability of ceramic seats with hard water and less maintenance required on tapware.
RMC Plumbing Services only purchases tapware with the WaterMark stamp on them, with a quality finish and Lead-free brass which is the latest requirement within the Plumbing Industry.
All products provided come with a manufacturer’s warranty.
